FairUse Wizard may be the definitive way to rip a DVD to your computer. It's an easy-to-use application that enables any user to rip a disc with no trouble.
The free version will only encode complete videos, meaning that you can't break them into segments or chapters. You can, however, perform those actions if you purchase the complete version. Still, the free version is an excellent application for copying DVDs to your hard drive.
FairUse Wizard makes it possible to select the area of the movie to convert to DivX, to which you can then add subtitles or a BMP-format image like a watermark.
The program also allows you to select the codec that will be used to encode the video (DivX, XviD, x264), the output resolution, and the audio bit rate. It also includes some interesting features that will allow you to divide the resulting file into various files, or create a separate file per chapter.
